Álvaro Carreras moved to cool tensions at Real Madrid on Wednesday, using Instagram to play down a training-ground incident with Antonio Rüdiger. The player said in a post that it was a one-off of no real significance, already resolved, and that his relationship with the squad is very good.
Reports in Spain had claimed the German slapped the former Benfica left-back during a session. Carreras rejected insinuations about him as untrue and stressed his commitment to the club and his coaches has been unwavering since day one, adding that it will continue.
He added that since returning he has worked with maximum professionalism, respect and dedication, having fought hard to come back home.
On 4 April, during LaLiga’s 30th round, Madrid lost 2-1 away to Mallorca at Son Moix. DAZN broadcast footage showing Rüdiger angrily urging Carreras to tighten up defensively.
By setting out his stance publicly, Carreras sought to end speculation and draw a line under the episode.
