Real Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa kept alive an ongoing trend on the part of the club’s recent managers on Wednesday night.
This of course comes fresh off an alarming defeat for Los Blancos.
Following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso this past Monday, Real Madrid kicked their campaign back into gear this evening, in a Copa del Rey meeting with 2nd-tier outfit Albacete.
When all was said and done, the visitors were condemned to a shock defeat, sent packing from the Spanish Cup in the Round-of-16.
As much came owing to a last-gasp Albacete winner, the deciding factor in a five-goal thriller.
Real Madrid made the trip to Castilla-La Mancha without a whole host of high-profile players, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappé left in Spain’s capital.
Those who were called up, though, failed to perform in any way, shape or form, looking lacklustre and at times frankly uninterested.
Speaking to the media post-match, new headmaster Álvaro Arbeloa was therefore drawn on the shortcomings of his squad.
Following in the footsteps of Carlo Ancelotti and Xabi Alonso before him, however, the Spanish tactician did his utmost to shift the blame off his players.
Instead, Arbeloa insisted:
“It’s my fault. I think the squad was correct. I’m the one responsible for this loss. The players tried their best. I can’t say anything against them.”
