Manchester United were eliminated from the Carabao Cup on Thursday night following a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final.
The Red Devils were impressive in the final third, but they were guilty of making high-profile defensive errors which cost them a place in the semi-final.
United were without Mason Mount after his injury in the Manchester derby. Manager Ruben Amorim has since confirmed that he will be out for ‘several weeks‘.
Shortly after the update, Mount expressed his frustration on Instagram and said that he will continue to give everything to get through another tough period.
United captain Bruno Fernandes was quick to send a positive message to the midfielder.
The Portuguese playmaker wrote on Instagram stories: “Always with you. We will be by your side in every moment. We fall together, we rise together.”
Mount joined the Red Devils in a surprise move from Chelsea in the summer of 2023. He was considered a perfect acquisition to provide extra creativity from central midfield.
However, the 25-year-old has struggled to stay fit to prove his worth. He has picked up multiple injuries. Mount has featured in only 42 percent of the club’s games since last season.
The Blues graduate had a positive pre-season, but things have gone pear-shaped for him in the 2024/25 campaign. He will be aiming to make his recovery as soon as possible.
Amorim has repeatedly said that Mount is the perfect player for him in his 3-4-3 formation. The Englishman got the nod to start in the Manchester derby last weekend.
Judging by this, Mount could still become a key player for the Red Devils. He needs to get over his injury troubles to replicate his performances from his time at Chelsea.
