According to Americayya.net, América have paused their pursuit of Necaxa’s 29-year-old Argentine midfielder Agustín Palavecino ahead of Clausura 2026, with Cruz Azul pushing ahead.

The report adds that América previously tabled an offer worth around eight million dollars. Cruz Azul have also submitted a bid and are said to be in front.

América have not followed up, with the process on hold, reportedly because the board are on holiday and will revisit it on their return.

Cruz Azul are seen to hold an edge because head coach Nicolás Larcamón knows the player well and Palavecino is a close friend of Paradela, who plays for the club.

It remains to be seen how talks develop, but if América do not accelerate, Cruz Azul could land one of Liga MX’s standout midfielders.

If América do secure him, he could slot in neatly alongside Álvaro Fidalgo. Both Palavecino and Álvaro Fidalgo have been among 2025’s most consistent performers, according to a statistical study by the account Statiskicks.

To complete any deal, América would first need to move on at least two foreign players, then negotiate with Necaxa amid rival interest, including from Tigres.
