According to TUDN, América are close to signing 25-year-old Mexican-American midfielder Edwin Cerrillo as their second addition for Apertura 2026, and he could debut on Thursday when they open their 2026 Leagues Cup campaign.
The club have moved slowly in this window, only days ago confirming their first signing, Óscar Perea from French football.
Cerrillo has dual nationality and has spent his career in MLS with LA Galaxy. His only European experience was a month training in Germany with Bayern Munich, where he did not earn a deal.
América do not currently have a midfielder of his profile, a ball player comfortable in possession in the mould of Jonathan dos Santos and Álvaro Fidalgo.
If he settles quickly, he could prove an intriguing addition and offer significant value despite arriving with a low profile.
