Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided an injury update on four players ahead of the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw against Sociedad in the first leg of the round of 16 on the road. They will be aiming to beat the Spanish outfit with home advantage tomorrow.
Ahead of the encounter, the Portuguese tactician has revealed that the game will come too soon for Mason Mount, who returned to full training in today’s morning session.
Amorim added that Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire won’t be available to face Sociedad but he hopes to have the latter fit for the weekend’s Premier League game at Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte is fully fit and will be in the squad to face Sociedad on Thursday.
He said (live on Manutd.com): “Mason Mount is too soon. Leny [Yoro] is out. Harry [Maguire] cannot play this one but I hope to have him for Sunday. Manu [Manuel Ugarte] is on the squad. Leny is not long-term but he cannot play this game or the next one.”
United had a good outing against Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend. They started on the back foot, but dominated proceedings after Bruno Fernandes’ sensational free-kick before the break.
The Red Devils had a defensive lapse leading to Declan Rice’s equaliser but should have won the game. David Raya was spectacular in goal for the Gunners with three world-class saves in the second half.
United need to carry the momentum into tomorrow’s must-win encounter. The club have to make progress in the Europa League. Winning the competition guarantees Champions League football.
Amorim will want huge financial backing from the hierarchy to purchase players this summer. A return to the Champions League would provide a huge revenue boost and reduce the need for outgoings.
