Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has remained noncommittal on the futures of Casemiro and Harry Maguire.

Casemiro has played in nine of United’s ten Premier League games this season, only missing one due to suspension. Maguire likewise has featured heavily, making seven league appearances before a recent absence caused by injury.

Now aged 33 and 32 respectively, the pair are both set to be out of contract this summer. “We don’t know what is going to happen,” Amorim said about their expiring deals. “My goal is to continue to count on Casemiro, on Harry Maguire – he has the same problem. I don’t know what is going to happen.

“Let’s focus on this season. I’m really happy with Casemiro, he’s really important. I’m really happy with Harry, but I know what you guys are asking.

“Let’s focus on this season and then we’ll see in the next season.”

United’s boss was much more certain on the future of Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian striker arrived from RB Leipzig for £74 million but has scored just two goals for the Reds so far.

“Yes, I’m relaxed. He’s not relaxed,” the Portuguese coach answered about the 22-year-old’s start at Old Trafford.

“I understand how things are in football and he’s going to struggle. That is normal.

“If you don’t perform every week, you are going to hear a lot of things from club legends, from pundits, from the media and sometimes they are right.

“To have the ability to understand that it’s normal and still maintain your level of confidence is really hard for a young kid.

“Especially for a young kid that is a control freak, wants to control everything and is not going to control everything.

“I said when I started training with Ben, he has more potential than I was thinking.

“He’s going to be a striker for the long term but he’s going to have these struggles and these bumps during the ride and that is a normal thing in football.

“Of course nobody likes to hear it,” Amorim continued on the criticism of Sesko. “But he struggles a little bit and that is a fact so let’s embrace that. It’s not personal, it’s nothing.

“That’s what I try to explain to the players. That it is not personal.

“It’s an opinion that is going to change in three weeks. What is true today in three weeks could be everything a lie.

“We are going to help him and we are going to protect Ben because he works really hard and he wants to succeed, so he’s going to succeed.”
