Amos Wanjala has made a swift impression since joining Valencia’s reserves in winter, becoming pivotal in their fight to stay up. According to Superdeporte, the Kenyan defender has been one of the standout performers in the second half of the season.

He arrived from At. Torrellano in winter and adapted immediately. After a brief debut off the bench, a little over a quarter of an hour, he has since completed 90 minutes in each of the next 10 matches, trusted by Miguel Ángel Angulo and Óscar Sánchez.

At only 20, he is physically mature and has earned his place through composure, power and decisiveness in duels. On the ball he is a centre-back comfortable playing short or long.

He is progressing quickly with the reserves and is showing he has the level to move up a division next summer. For now the first team have not brought him in to train despite absences across the defence.

Wanjala is a senior Kenya international and captain of the Under-20 side. He has also represented the Valencian regional team in the UEFA Regions’ Cup, and his early weeks in Mestalla colours suggest leadership credentials.
