It is too early in the 25/26 season to know exactly what areas of Pep Guardiola’s squad Manchester City will look to strengthen next summer. A definitive answer to that question won’t emerge until late in the season. But there is no doubt that Hugo Viana and the City hierarchy will be drawing up their shortlist of potential summer transfer targets. One player who has recently been named as a potential Manchester City summer transfer target is versatile Nottingham Forest midfielder Eliot Anderson. Anderson has impressed the City hierarchy of late and could be a player they look to sign next summer, as per a new report.
Amos Murphy and Jeremy Cross have reported for The Express, that Manchester City are planning to pay £75 million to sign Eliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest next summer. Furthermore, the Express report adds that Chelsea could rival City to sign Nottingham Forest’s England international. Murphy and Cross also report that Pep Guardiola has been closely monitoring Eliot Anderson’s progress as a player. If City do decide to strengthen their midfield at the end of this season, Eliot Anderson will be one of their primary transfer targets, as per the Express report.
Who leaves Manchester City next summer, may shape their summer transfer window business. One player who seems more likely to leave City than stay at the club is Bernardo Silva. If Manchester City’s captain did leave the club when his contract expires, replacing him would be no easy task. Bernardo Silva’s versatility and penchant for doing whatever it takes for his team won’t be easily replaced. But Nottingham Forest midfielder Eliot Anderson could be a replacement for Bernardo Silva.
First of all, Eliot Anderson is a versatile midfielder who can play various roles in midfield. Typically, he plays as a number eight for Nottingham Forest. He can also play as a number six or as a number ten. Anderson ticks the box of being able play in multiple positions that City tends to target in players.
Eliot Anderson is a player gifted with a wide range of passing. His progressive passing is key to Nottingham Forest’s play. He links the play superbly well between defence and attack for his team. Anderson also holds the ball well when faced with pressure. He is also strong in a duel and adept at winning back possession for his team with his tenacity. Eliot Anderson also covers the pitch well and is strong aerially and in a challenge. All told, alongside Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, Eliot Anderson may be England’s brightest young midfield prospect. His game and potential does seem suited to playing in a Pep Guardiola team.
It is easy to see why Manchester City would be interested in signing Eliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. If a player such as Bernardo Silva leaves the club, Anderson could be the ready-made replacement for a player who is vitally important to Pep Guardiola’s side.
