Manchester City received the news yesterday that they feared in terms of the seriousness of the injury that Josko Gvardiol suffered against Chelsea. The Croatian defender suffered a fractured tibial in his right leg. He will now face an extended period on the sidelines. Pep Guardiola’s side is now facing an injury crisis with their centre-backs. Ruben Dias also picked up a muscle injury against Chelsea. John Stones is currently injured and Nathan Ake is a player who has battled fitness issues of his own over the past two seasons. City does seemingly need to sign another senior centre-back.
Manchester City have previously been credited with an interest in signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. Guehi is one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League and it now seems like City could move to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace during the January transfer window. That is an obvious move to make and it seems like City could push to sign Marc Guehi in the coming days or weeks.
Sami Mokbel has reported for the BBC that Manchester City are exploring the possibility of signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this month. Furthermore, Mokbel reports that Crystal Palace would consider selling Guehi this month rather than lose him for free at the end of this season when his contract expires. It is also reported by Mokbel that Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan all have an interest in signing Guehi on a free transfer at the end of this season. Liverpool could also move to sign Guehi in January given their previous interest in signing the England international Mokbel also reports.
Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Manchester City have made a initial enquiry to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Romano adds that Liverpool are paying close attention to the situation surrounding Geuhi and that Bayern Munich have a strong interest in signing Guehi on a free transfer at the end of this season.

With Josko Gvardiol sidelined for an extended time period of time, it does look like Manchester City could do with signing another centre-back. The injury suffered by Ruben Dias does exacerbate the problem. As does the constant fitness issues that surround John Stones and Nathan Ake. Abdukodir Khusanov and Max Alleyne, who has been recalled from his loan spell at Watford, are both young centre-backs who will have a role to play across the second-half of this season for City. Whether or not either player is ready to play a bigger role in Pep Guardiola’s side is up for debate. City do now look to be a senior centre-back short right now. That’s where Marc Guehi could come in.
Marc Guehi is a proven Premier League centre-back and he is one of the best in the league. He is good in possession and extremely strong defensively. In theory, Geuhi wouldn’t need an extended period adjusting to life at City. He is experienced enough to learn the City way on the fly so to speak. Marc Guehi is also a leader and his leadership traits would be an especially useful addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. It now remains to be seen if City do move for Guehi to strengthen their squad.
A Manchester City move for Marc Guehi seems to be an obvious move for City to make, especially after Josko Gvardiol’s injury. Whether or not City can satisfy Crystal Palace’s demands in terms of a transfer fee remains to be seen. Or if they can tempt Guehi to forego being a free agent and the money that could be on offer to him this summer. But it does seem that City could test the waters to sign a centre-back who could have a crucial role to play if they could sign him this month.
