Well that’s that one killed stone dead. After a ton of noise about Davide Ancelotti being lined up as the next Rangers manager, the 34-year-old Italian has officially turned down not only the Ibrox job, but all managerial suitors in favour of staying as assistant to his dad, Carlo Ancelotti, with Brazil.

This one had gained a bit of traction in the past couple of weeks, with Rangers fans split on whether Ancelotti junior was a serious candidate or not, especially after some wild claims suggested he’d even visited Glasgow. While that seemed more fantasy than fact, there was still enough interest to stir a debate. And we covered it fully right here.

But now, confirmation has come that Ancelotti will remain on the coaching staff of the Seleção under his legendary father, showing zero intention of branching out just yet as a manager in his own right.

It means that yet another possible candidate for the Rangers job has bitten the dust. With Barry Ferguson still in place as interim—but 99% unlikely to land the job permanently—the board is narrowing its options fast.

What this does, crucially, is highlight a growing issue: Rangers are not an attractive proposition at present. Whether it’s the lack of funds, the mess behind the scenes, or simply the risk attached to inheriting a broken squad, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Ibrox is a tough sell to any half-decent managerial prospect. Even Davide, unproven in the top seat, has rejected us—and he had his pick of lower-table Serie A and Ligue 1 sides too, according to this recent report.

The truth is, Rangers are struggling to land the man they really want. Names like Knutsen, Clement, and Muscat have all come and gone in recent months, and now even the curveballs like Ancelotti are ducking out. It’s a worrying trend.

And until a clear strategy is shown, the managerial search will remain chaotic. The clock is ticking—and with season ticket renewals looming, fans aren’t going to tolerate this dithering much longer.

The silence from the board is deafening—and it’s becoming hard not to think they’re just winging it. Again.
