Jesús Vallejo finds himself on the sidelines at Real Madrid. Despite the exit of Nacho over the summer creating a potential opportunity, manager Carlo Ancelotti has decided that Vallejo does not meet the required level.

As a result, the Italian has given the defender just 10 minutes of playing time across 29 matches this season.

Vallejo told to leave

With the winter transfer window now open, SPORT reports that Ancelotti and Real Madrid have encouraged Vallejo to find a new team, though the player remains resistant to leaving.

Ancelotti’s stance has been made clear by Vallejo’s exclusion from fixtures, including the Copa del Rey match against Deportiva Minera and the Spanish Super Cup trip to Jeddah.

Real Madrid have not issued any medical reports to justify these absences, with sources within the club confirming that the defender is simply not in the manager’s plans. Instead, Ancelotti has opted to use youth players over Vallejo.

Vallejo’s sole appearance this season came back in September last yaer, when he played the final 10 minutes Alaves, replacing an injured Kylian Mbappe.

The Spanish defender’s omission from the Copa del Rey clash against a Segunda RFEF side underscored his marginalisation, as the match was primarily reserved for squad players.

Time up?

In the cup match played in Cartagena, Ancelotti fielded youth players Raul Asencio and Diego Aguado as centre-backs, with Vallejo left at home.

Subsequently, Vallejo was omitted from the Spanish Super Cup squad, with Aguado and Asencio included.

Vallejo joined Real Madrid in the 2015/16 season from Zaragoza but has spent the majority of his time at the club away on loan spells.

In total, Vallejo has donned the Real Madrid shirt just 32 times over nine seasons, and with Ancelotti’s clear lack of faith in the defender, his future at the club seems increasingly untenable.

But with the player’s reluctance to leave, he might end up staying until the end of the season, when his contract runs out.
