Boca have suffered another setback as Ander Herrera picked up a muscle injury and will miss Sunday’s visit to Vélez.
The club said in a statement that the 36-year-old central midfielder has a grade one strain of the right rectus femoris. He left training and will be unavailable.
Claudio Úbeda will be without him for the trip to Vélez at José Amalfitani on Sunday at 22:15. It follows the confirmation of a hamstring tear sustained by Exequiel Zeballos in Wednesday’s session.
Milton Delgado is in line to replace Herrera, though the coach is also weighing Tomás Belmonte, with Rodrigo Battaglia still sidelined.
Úbeda is, however, regaining options up front, as Edinson Cavani and Miguel Merentiel trained with the group after shaking off knocks. After several weeks out, it is most likely he will not start them, but if they progress they could get minutes against Vélez in the fourth round of the Torneo Apertura.
After the Liniers meeting, Boca face Platense and Racing, then debut in the Copa Argentina against Gimnasia y Esgrima de Chivilcoy on 24 February at Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena.
