Three Lions continue 100 per cent start under Thomas Tuchel after Harry Kane’s goal, but it was far from convincing
Blushes spared: Harry Kane turned home Noni Madueke’s cross to score England’s only goal against Andorra in Barcelona
England laboured to a hugely unconvincing win over Andorra in 2026 World Cup qualifying. The Three Lions were overwhelming favourites to run up a big scoreline against Group K minnows at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona on Saturday evening, but instead delivered a massively ponderous performance in which they dominated possession but could not fashion many clear-cut opportunities against a team currently ranked at 173rd in the world by FIFA.
After a scoreless first half, England did eventually net the only goal of a drab game five minutes after the interval, man-of-the-match Noni Madueke teeing up captain Harry Kane for his 450th career effort that ultimately spared their blushes. Chances to double that advantage were surprisingly few and far between thereafter, bar an Eberechi Eze header that was tipped over by Iker Alvarez and a last-gasp muddle involving Madueke and Anthony Gordon.
It’s three wins from three for England to start both World Cup qualifying and the new Tuchel era, but they will need considerable improvement moving forward - starting against Senegal in Tuesday night’s friendly contest at the City Ground in Nottingham.

Full-time
Certainly not a game or an England performance that will live long in the memory.

93 mins: Andorra can’t make the most of one last opportunity before England then somehow don’t score at the death as Madueke and Gordon fail to combine.
That just about sums up their evening.

90 mins: Andorra have given England a few scares in this second half, but Guillaume Lopez’s cross from the byline is easily dealt with inside the box.
Morgan Gibbs-White is going to get the three minutes of stoppage time here in place of Bellingham.

It's been far from vintage, but it looks like England are going to get the job done.
Five minutes for England to find a second goal...

85 mins: Five minutes to go and this has all the feeling of a glorified pre-season friendly.
A lot of questions for England after this.

80 mins: Really poor from James as he leans back and fires the free-kick high into the stands.
Andorra boss Koldo Alvarez is now replacing Joel Guillen with Eric De las Heras.

79 mins: Jones and Rogers are replaced by Rice and Gordon as England win a free-kick in a dangerous area outside the box.
James and Alexander-Arnold are both standing over it.
James of course scored his first senior England goal with a brilliant free-kick against Latvia at Wembley in March.

75 mins: A scare for England with 15 minutes to go but Konsa is thankfully there to block inside the box from Guillaume Lopez, who had skipped past the rather laboured challenge of Burn after a lovely flick.
Chus Rubio and Marc Vales have replaced Biel Borra and Pau Babot.
Declan Rice and Anthony Gordon will both be on for England soon.

That's a brilliant save from the Andorra goalkeeper, denying Eze what would have been his second England goal in as many games.

73 mins: Chance for Eze to double the lead off the bench as his header from a cute Bellingham cross is tipped over by Iker Alvarez.
About as much invention as England have shown all evening.
More Andorra changes are coming now.
