André Kabile, a long-serving and emblematic defender for Nîmes Olympique, died on Friday, aged 87.
According to L'Équipe, he had been hospitalised for several weeks at the CHU de Nîmes. Born in Saint-Esprit in Martinique, he arrived in the Gard in 1966 and spent his entire career with Nîmes.
Across 13 years he made 516 appearances for the Crocos, a club record that should never be beaten.
Kabile was part of the Nîmes side that finished runners-up in France in 1972, alongside Henri Augé, Jacky Vergnes, Jean-Pierre Adams and Michel Mézy, under coach Kader Firoud.
Last year he took the ceremonial kick-off for the first match of the season at the Stade des Antonins against Limonest.
