André Silva has set the pace at Olival, scoring a bicycle kick in training and quickly becoming a reference point for Porto’s youngsters. His return has married showpiece moments with everyday standards.
According to O Jogo, the 30-year-old closed the first block of 2026/27 training by acrobatically converting a Rodrigo Mora cross, stirring bittersweet Jamor memories. It echoed his Portuguese Cup strike in the Braga final, a shootout defeat, yet part of a 2016 brace that cemented his breakthrough.
The clip was widely shared, and Elche also revisited the forward’s time there, noting his 10 league goals in Spain last season.
His impact runs beyond one piece of skill. Silva reported to CTFD Jorge Costa in excellent condition, came through the physical tests with his team-mates, and, despite past issues, only had brief stoppages in each of the last two seasons. He worked through the summer to report in peak condition for Francesco Farioli, who has him as the main attacking reference while Samu recovers and Deniz Gul rests.
Eduardo Ferreira, called up for pre-season, has been taking cues from him, and others have followed. A decade on from his own step up at Olival, after spells in Italy, Spain and Germany, he remains Portugal’s fourth-highest active scorer with 19 in 53. Seeking to reopen that door, the number 19’s work-rate is high, the demands of Villas-Boas and Farioli are clear, Porto still want a striker, and with the Supertaça under a month away, André Silva leads the pack.
