Andrés Gómez has featured in every Vasco match in 2026. The Colombian has started nine of 10 games, coming on once against Nova Iguaçu in the second round of the Carioca.
According to Globo.com, the forward arrived on loan midway through last year, quickly claimed a place, benched Vegetti and combined with Rayan and Nuno Moreira. He ended 2025 in form, supplying assists against Fluminense and Corinthians in a Copa do Brasil runners-up campaign.
Vasco then made the move permanent, activating the purchase clause ahead of schedule to secure him and deter European interest. The fee was around 4.5 million euros, which the club view as good value given his output.
Enquiries are expected, particularly if his stock rises around the 2026 World Cup. Since arriving, he has returned to Colombia’s national team, yet the board regard him as a pillar and are not looking to sell.
After Rayan’s departure, Gómez has become the team’s main attacking outlet. He has three goal involvements this season, while his left-sided threat and chance creation define his impact.
Home fans at São Januário have applauded him despite recent poor results. He was the only regular starter to avoid the slump against Volta Redonda and Bahia.
Gómez and Vasco face Fluminense this weekend in the Campeonato Carioca semi-finals, a reunion two months on from the 2025 Copa do Brasil semi-finals that Vasco won.
