Keith Andrews told his Brentford team they have been the “best team” in the Premier League over the past ten games following defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

The Seagulls secured a 2-0 win at the Gtech Community Stadium thanks to first-half goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck.

It is the Bees’ first defeat in four league games, having won two and drawn one of the previous three, with the draw coming against leaders Arsenal.

“I thought first half we didn’t reach the levels we have done pretty consistently,” Andrews told BBC Match of the Day.

“We have been performing at a high level and today we didn’t do that. Second half was a big improvement. We showed a lot in the second half. We couldn’t quite take the opportunity early enough that would cause them problems. Overall it’s a disappointing day.”

Brentford captain Nathan Collins, who has started the last two league games on the bench, replaced the injured Aaron Hickey towards the end of the first half, but immediately made a mess of a cross to gift wrap the second goal for Welbeck .

“Mistakes are part and parcel of the game,” Andrews added. “I’m okay with things like that, as long as we learn from why we have performed like we did in the first half and continue to grow as a group.”

Andrews also revealed what he told his players after the game. “My overall message was we have been the best team in this league for the last 10 games and 45 minutes of football won’t define what we have done or what we will do going forward.”

Brentford were second in the form table over that period, having gained just one point less than Arsenal.
