Scotland ended their pre-World Cup international window on a disappointing note after slipping to a narrow 1-0 friendly defeat against Ivory Coast at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday night.

It marked a second successive loss for Steve Clarke’s side during the March break, following another goalless outing days earlier, and leaves Scotland still searching for attacking momentum just months before the FIFA World Cup gets underway this summer.

Despite the result, the evening carried a significant personal milestone for captain Andy Robertson. The Liverpool left-back earned his 92nd international cap, moving past legendary goalkeeper Jim Leighton to become Scotland’s second most-capped men’s player of all time. Robertson had matched Leighton’s total of 91 appearances against Japan at Hampden just three days earlier, before taking sole possession of second place with this latest outing.

Only former Scotland great Kenny Dalglish, who made 102 appearances for the national side, now sits ahead of Robertson on the all-time list — a record that is increasingly within reach if he remains fit heading into the next campaign.

Scotland still have one more friendly to come against Curaçao on 30 May before attention turns fully to the World Cup. Clarke’s side will open their Group C campaign against Haiti on 13 June, with fixtures against Morocco and Brazil to follow.
