Juan Román Riquelme has confirmed Ángel Romero will be Boca Juniors’ first signing under Claudio Úbeda, with only formalities left to seal the move.

"Tomorrow, the day after or Monday, hopefully we can have him with us," he said to AZZ.

The 33-year-old arrives as a free agent after finishing his spell at Corinthians in Brazil, a status that smoothed talks for a return to Argentina. The agreement is for one season with an option to extend by a further year.

"The lawyers are already exchanging papers, everything would indicate it is going to happen," the club idol added.

Boca have seen bids for Kevin Serna and Alexis Cuello rejected. Fluminense deemed Serna non-transferable after a 5 million dollar offer, while San Lorenzo turned down 3 million dollars for 60 percent of Cuello’s rights.

Romero’s arrival would add international pedigree and an extra attacking option. There is hope the official announcement will come before the Torneo Apertura 2026 opener.
