A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is set to be unavailable for selection for the final weeks of the campaign, as well as the upcoming Club World Cup.
That’s according to Marca, who point towards Ferland Mendy as the player in question.
Left-back Mendy, for his part, featured from the off over the weekend, as Real Madrid locked horns with arch rivals Barcelona in the finale of the Copa del Rey.
En route to an eventual 3-2 defeat for his side, however, the Frenchman was forced to limp off early on.
This came owing to a muscular problem, the extent of which has since been confirmed.
As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms on Tuesday evening:
‘Following tests carried out on Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Department, the player has been diagnosed with a rupture of the proximal hamstring of the rectus femoris in the right quadriceps. His progress will be monitored.’
When it comes to Mendy’s incoming spell on the treatment table, Marca add that:
‘It is a serious injury that leaves the French full-back out of action for the remainder of the season, including the Club World Cup.’
