Ansu Fati, 23, returns to Spain on Tuesday for a Champions League tie at the Bernabéu against Real Madrid at 21.00, seeking a reset after injury-hit years.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he remains a Barcelona player on loan at Monaco with an option of about €11m. Madrid are his most frequent opponents, with 10 clásicos, three wins including one at Chamartín, and two goals.
Monaco sit ninth in Ligue 1. Fati has seven goals in 15 games and scored in Friday’s 1-3 loss to Lorient, his first outing after six weeks out with a thigh issue.
Flashscore ranks him second in the top five leagues for goals per minute, behind Harry Kane, with Robert Lewandowski third. Transfermarkt lists this as his 17th injury in six and a half years, costing 139 games and 734 days.
His loan was confirmed on one July, yet he did not play until 18 September, with Adi Hütter citing fitness after a sparse year under Hansi Flick. He then hit six goals in his first five Monaco games, only two starts, before momentum faded following Hütter’s October exit and Sébastien Pocognoli’s arrival.
His current coach has said there have been no issues managing him and that, when fully fit, he wins matches. He added Fati is feeling good and could be very good if fitness holds. Given only 15 minutes in the past two months, he is likely to start on the bench.
