Anthony Mandrea has been ruled out of the World Cup with Algeria after sustaining a serious shoulder injury in training with Caen around 10 days ago.
According to Ouest France, the goalkeeper has a major shoulder dislocation and Gaël Clichy said on Wednesday he will undergo surgery, ending his season.
Mandrea joined Stade Malherbe Caen in 2022 after spells at Nice, Angers and Cholet, and is under contract until 2027. Caen are eighth in National.
Mandrea, 29, has 21 caps, most recently on 31 December in Algeria's third group match at the Africa Cup of Nations, a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea. He was understudy to Luca Zidane and had returned after six months out.
Head coach Vladimir Petkovic also called him up in March for the final pre-World Cup camp.
The setback follows the injury to Melvin Mastil, newly called in March, who had surgery last week for an inguinal hernia. The Nyon goalkeeper, from the Swiss second tier, is very uncertain for the World Cup. Algeria will face Argentina, Jordan and Austria in Group J.
