Anthony Patterson is weighing a summer move as Sunderland’s goalkeeping plans solidify, with Robin Roefs currently first choice. According to Sunderland Echo, the 26-year-old’s pathway to regular football looks unclear on Wearside.

He prefers a permanent transfer to another loan, seeking stability. A temporary switch cannot be ruled out if the market complicates matters, though the ideal is a clean move into a starting role.

Sunderland value him at £eight million to £10 million, which may stretch most Championship budgets. Millwall could be one to watch if promoted. Southampton are understood to be keen, with any move potentially hinging on Aaron Ramsdale, who has two years left, and whether the current Newcastle United loanee stays if they go up. Coventry City, West Brom, Hull City and Derby County are also monitoring.

An academy graduate who helped lift Sunderland from League One to the Premier League, Patterson is under contract until 2028 after a September 2023 extension. Any fee would be pure profit under SCR because he is homegrown, though that is not a cue to sell cheaply.

Roefs, 23, has admirers after an impressive season, and Sunderland would only listen to a major offer. Some suitors may prefer to assess him for another Premier League campaign under Régis Le Bris.

If Roefs left, Sunderland would target a direct replacement, which could delay any Patterson exit depending on timing and availability. Even then, Patterson is not currently viewed as next season’s number one, with Ellborg considered dependable cover.
