The Premier League confirmed that Anthony Taylor will referee West Ham vs Leeds United on Sunday’s final day, a match with major implications for the hosts.

Leeds arrive safe after a strong return to the top flight, unbeaten in eight and fresh from a 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

West Ham have lost three in a row and sit 18th, two points behind Tottenham Hotspur with a far worse goal difference. They need a near-miracle to overhaul their rivals and avoid the drop.

The experienced official will take charge at the London Stadium, assisted by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, with Steve Martin as fourth official and John Brooks on VAR.

Taylor has handled high-profile fixtures this season and has overseen Leeds three times, an FA Cup third-round win at Derby County, September’s 3-1 victory at Wolves and December’s 3-3 draw at home to Liverpool.

In that six-goal draw, Willy Gnonto won a penalty at 2-0 down after a review found Ibrahima Konate had fouled him before the ball went out. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored, Anton Stach quickly added another, Dominik Szoboszlai made it 3-2, then Ao Tanaka equalised in added time.

Despite being safe, Leeds could still shape the relegation fight. West Ham must beat Daniel Farke’s side and hope Tottenham lose at Everton to survive.
