According to L'Équipe, 2018 World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann has decided to join MLS at the end of the season. Atlético Madrid have permitted him to travel to Orlando during this international break to finalise his move.

Orlando City, Atlético and the forward are finalising an agreement for a summer arrival. He remains a Colchonero until then, with 13 goals and four assists this season from 42 appearances, including 17 starts.

Talks have run for weeks, with Orlando holding his discovery rights. The club initially hoped to sign him before 26 March, the MLS deadline, but he preferred to delay to complete his campaign with Atlético.

After a 5-2 win over Tottenham in the Champions League last 16 first leg, Griezmann said he felt great in Madrid and wanted to finish the job this season.

His timing is also shaped by the Copa del Rey final against former club Real Sociedad on 18 April, with a first triumph in that competition still missing. He has already won the Europa League in 2018 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2014.

Griezmann has long targeted MLS, and has previously described it as a dream while stressing his commitment to Atlético.

The Florida side finished ninth in the Eastern Conference last season and have begun with three defeats and one win. Off the pitch, the American culture enthusiast and NBA and NFL fan sees a fit for his family in Orlando’s Spanish-speaking environment.
