Leeds received a timely lift as Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest 2-1, preventing the Reds from leapfrogging them in the Premier League relegation fight.

According to BBC Sport, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo is determined to sign for Manchester City and wants a deal finalised as soon as the window opens on 1 January. The report adds Bournemouth may ask him to face Arsenal and Tottenham before a 10 January release deadline, with formal steps expected within 48 hours.

Any departure would deprive Andoni Iraola of a key figure, with Semenyo on eight goals and three assists in 16 league appearances this season. It would also leave Bournemouth short for a daunting run of fixtures.

They were beaten 4-1 at Brentford on Saturday, a ninth Premier League match without a win. With Leeds creeping up behind them, such a loss would be a significant blow for Iraola and timely for Daniel Farke.

Bournemouth are considering Ruben Vargas as a replacement, a player Leeds are trying to sign after his strong start to the season at Sevilla. The 49ers need to move quickly to conclude that deal before any Semenyo agreement is completed, otherwise the Switzerland international could head to the south coast rather than Yorkshire.
