Benfica are pushing to extend António Silva's contract, which runs until June 2027, but the defender wants a significant pay rise to sit among the squad's top earners, above two million euros net per season.

According to A Bola, he also wants assurances he will be central to the next Benfica manager's plans, both in regular selection and in a leadership role.

The Portugal international was unhappy with parts of last season, losing status after Nicolás Otamendi and Tomás Araújo moved ahead of him at centre-back. That downturn was reflected with the national team, as he was omitted from the 2026 World Cup squad.

Beyond on-pitch matters, he was disappointed by the slow pace of renewal talks and what he felt was limited backing during the season's tougher spells. Even so, relations have improved and he is open to renewed dialogue.

Discussions are expected to resume after the summer break, with the club hopeful of striking an agreement. In 2025/26 he played 41 competitive games for Benfica, including 25 in Liga Portugal Betclic and 10 in the Champions League, plus four in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,118 minutes he scored one goal and supplied one assist, and he is valued at 25 million euros.
