Antony’s Spanish Revival Offers United a Lifeline

Resurgence in Seville

Antony’s loan spell at Real Betis has reignited a career that once flickered uncertainly under the bright lights of Old Trafford. With six goals and four assists since January, the Brazilian has looked revitalised, giving Manchester United hope of recouping up to £42.5million (€50m) this summer. That potential fee, as The Express reports, would provide “a significant boost to Ruben Amorim’s financial resources” as United prepare for another era of rebuild.

Betis Hopeful of Permanent Deal

Inside the Estadio Benito Villamarín, there’s a strong belief that Antony wants to stay. “Betis are under the impression that Antony is keen to extend his stay beyond the current season, with the winger said to have given his word.” Such a public stance hints at early groundwork for a permanent transfer, even if “United are holding off on formal transfer discussions until the end of the season.”

European Focus Postpones Talks

With both clubs fighting deep into their respective European campaigns, negotiations remain on ice. United’s patience might be strategic—his stock could rise further. Antony’s recent strike against Fiorentina in the Conference League semi-final hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Wider Market Interest Grows

Old Trafford’s hierarchy appears open to a wider auction. “Old Trafford bosses are also open to other clubs expressing interest. Atletico Madrid are believed to have made enquiries, according to the Mirror.” This could yet drive up Antony’s valuation and allow United to fund moves for younger, more tactically suited players under Amorim’s reign.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a United perspective, this could be the cleanest win the club has had in the transfer market for some time. Antony’s Old Trafford stint was always a gamble—one that never quite delivered on its £85m promise. But now? There’s an exciting chance to turn that misfire into something of a financial reset.

Betis are a good fit. His confidence is back, his output speaks volumes, and you can see the flair we hoped to see in Manchester now flowing in Seville. If he wants to stay—and “the winger is said to have given his word”—that should be honoured.

That said, the hope is United don’t rush. Atletico Madrid circling should be used to full advantage. If this becomes a bidding war, United must play it smart. Amorim will want fresh faces, and £42.5m can go a long way in the right hands.

If this summer really is a reset under a new manager, then parting ways with Antony for a decent sum is not just logical—it’s necessary.
