Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa faced the press ahead of his team’s La Liga encounter with Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The coach spoke about the challenge of the upcoming match, the condition of Kylian Mbappe, and the growing conversation around Dani Carvajal’s lack of minutes.

Starting with the opposition, Arbeloa made it clear that his team is expecting a tough evening.

Speaking about the challenge, he said, “Real Sociedad’s pace under their new coach is spectacular. They’ve played against the big teams and are unbeaten.

“They’re dangerous and it will be very difficult, we’re aware of that. We’ll have to give our best, one more day.”

On Mbappe and Carvajal

One of the biggest concerns during the week had been Mbappe’s fitness, but the coach offered a positive update. He confirmed that the French forward is back with the squad and ready for action.

“He’s fine. He’s trained with the group and is available for tomorrow’s match.”

One of the most delicate topics was Dani Carvajal’s situation and Arbeloa confirmed that he has spoken with the veteran defender and is closely monitoring his progress.

“As with everyone, I like to talk to them. We sit down, we talk; I like to know what they think. He’s getting better and better.

“He’s had another week of training and the person most interested in him being at his best is me. Obviously.”

When asked directly about the player’s frustration over limited minutes, the coach acknowledged the feeling but also sent a message about priorities.

“It’s normal for a player to be unhappy if he’s not playing as much as he wants to. Everyone wants to feel important.

“If they’ve made it to Real Madrid, it’s because they have been important, and that’s key.

“I encourage everyone to work hard, and if you’re not happy, come sit on the gray sofa. But put the team before the individual.”

On Super League

The manager was also asked about the club’s position on the Super League situation.

Rather than expanding on the topic, he chose to keep his answer short and aligned with the official club stance.

“The club has made a statement and I refer to that. It’s a good agreement for football.”

When the conversation turned to team selection, Arbeloa emphasised that he chooses each starting XI based on the needs of the match.

“I have 25 players and I pick each eleven, thinking about who is best for that game. As a friend of mine says, here, the worst player is as good as you are.

“Everyone knows that opportunities come and they work very well. I like that they have that feeling.”

Reflecting on his first month in charge, the coach avoided big statements about the future and instead focused on steady improvement.

“I can’t imagine anything beyond tomorrow’s game. There is always room for improvement and evolution. That’s what I think.

“I’m happy with how we’ve trained this week and hopefully tomorrow will be a better game than the last one and worse than the next one.”

A dig at Hansi Flick

Arbeloa was also questioned about the Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona match, but he refused to comment.

“I have nothing to say. Ask Flick’s Barça.”

Finally, he praised young defenders Raul Asencio and Dean Huijsen, highlighting their potential despite their age.

“In Valencia, we fielded a younger defence than three reserve teams in Primera RFEF. We have players with enormous potential, incredible players, despite their age.

“They should be in Primera RFEF and are international players. It’s not easy being a defender at Real Madrid. I know what I’m talking about. And I’m very happy with them.”

It has been a month since Arbeloa took over as Real Madrid’s manager and when asked if his tenure has met his expectations, he said,

“Being the coach of the best team in the world is a privilege and a blessing that I will enjoy until the last day.”
