Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente insists his team will not be swept away by World Cup hype despite producing one of the strongest runs in international football.

La Roja extended their unbeaten streak to 30 match with commanding 4-0 victory over Georgia on Saturday surpassing the previous national record of 29 game set by Vicente del Bosque’s golden generation between 2010 & 2013.

The win reinforced Spain’s status as the No1 ranked team in the world.

Spain’s current form stretches back to their perfect run at UEFA Euro 2024 where they won all seven match en route to record fourth European title in Germany last summer.

Their dominance continued into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers where Spain have:

  • 5 win from 5 match
  • 19 goal scored
  • 0 goal conceded
  • 15 point in Group E

Their qualification is essentially secured. For Spain to lose top spot, Turkey second in the group would need to defeat them by seven goal on Tuesday, an almost impossible scenario at this level.

Speaking ahead of the Turkey clash in Seville, De la Fuente acknowledged the pressure that comes with being the team to beat.

"Success is about being among the contenders. There is very fine line between winning & losing" he said. "There is no clear favourite at the World Cup. Spain are among the candidates but that is all"..

The coach attributed Spain’s sustained success to the structural excellence of Spanish football crediting both clubs & the federation:

"The secret lies in the exceptional work done across Spanish football , clear ideas, defined model, investment & belief"..

De la Fuente confirmed Spain will approach the match with full focus:
