Argentina name 2026 World Cup squad, Palacios included for title defence | OneFootball

Lionel Scaloni has confirmed Argentina’s final 2026 World Cup squad, with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios selected as the holders bid to retain the trophy.

According to BuLi News, the 27-year-old made his first league start of the season in February, and a strong finish helped convince Scaloni.

Palacios featured for 47 minutes at the last World Cup, when Argentina ended their long wait for the title. Much of that group returns, including Lionel Messi.

Former Borussia Dortmund centre-back Leonardo Balerdi is among the fresh faces compared with the 2022 squad. Nicolás González, who has Bundesliga experience with Stuttgart, is also included.

The three-time winners begin their Group J campaign against Algeria, then face Austria and debutants Jordan as they chase consecutive crowns, last achieved by Brazil in 1962.
