Argentine supporters in Castelló are finalising plans for Sunday’s World Cup final against Spain, with community group Asociación Cultural Argentina El Ceibo coordinating meet-ups across the city.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the tournament has drawn crowds from several nationalities in the city during a World Cup featuring 48 teams, with Argentina among those gathering in significant numbers.
Association president Ariel Altamiranda said members were encouraged to watch together when possible, sometimes in bars and, for early kick-offs, at the association’s headquarters. He added that the team’s run has filled Argentines with pride, with at least second place already secured.
He recalled the England semi-final carrying extra meaning for many because of the Falklands, noting they watched at Route 66 on Maestro Ripollés, while a neighbouring bar and Dublin House were also packed, with more than 200 fans in the area.
Altamiranda highlighted how quickly fans mobilised after the semi, already plotting final-day plans. Despite that, after talks with the city council, the group could not secure an exclusive venue and will instead join one of the two city screens, stressing respect above all.
On the football, he said Spain is among the opponents he would least mind losing to, and he was keen to avoid defeat to England or France in a final.
Camila Tolosa, an Argentine from Onda, said the dramatic qualification left her thrilled at the prospect of Spain v Argentina. She considers both nations hers but leans Argentina, especially because of Leo Messi.
Castelló is expected to be dominated by Spanish fans, though a notable Argentine presence will underline the province’s cultural diversity.
