Armando Mendonça has stepped aside as Corinthians vice-president for 30 days, effective Monday. He confirmed the decision in a statement.
During his absence, administrative and institutional matters at Parque São Jorge pass to president Osmar Stabile, with Deliberative Council acting president Leonardo Pantaleão deputising if required.
The move follows internal unrest. Councillors and members filed a precautionary request for his removal amid an investigation into alleged diversion of Nike sports kit, and on Wednesday the Ministério Público de São Paulo (MP-SP) charged him with qualified and continued embezzlement, attempted qualified embezzlement, qualified theft by abuse of trust, and coercion during proceedings.
Mendonça denies diverting or appropriating 131 items, saying 62 never left the club and others were formally assigned to staff and presidential security. He adds that neither the club’s internal probe nor the police inquiry found illicit conduct, arguing he had no operational control over the storeroom or stock.
He criticises the presidency for omission and lack of resolve, saying requests for independent audits were refused by Osmar Stabile, so he hired a specialist firm that deemed the accusatory report amateur and technically unusable.
He condemns a selective leak of clandestinely recorded conversations from September 2025, calling it a tactic to wear down opponents. He links the attacks to his split over irregularities in the Vai de Bet sponsorship and his support for removing then president Augusto Melo. He says the leave protects his family, dignity and the club’s interests, and he remains confident of being cleared in court.
