Manchester United and Arsenal have both shopped in the La Liga market in recent years, and they could do so again in 2026, as they have set their sights on one of the league’s highest-rated midfielders.
During the 2025 summer transfer window, it emerged that Man United held a considerable interest in Lucien Agoume. The 23-year-old, who joined Sevilla in 2024 from Inter, has been one of the standout performers for the Andalusian side since his arrival, and that has triggered interest from England.
It’s believed that Man United view Agoume as an alternative to leading target Carlos Baleba, but there is a chance that they miss out on his signature. That’s because Arsenal are also keen on the Frenchman, as revealed by CaughtOffside.

Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Arsenal were keen on Agoume, and CaughtOffside have now said that the Premier League giants made a considerable effort to prise him away from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. But despite it not being successful, they are prepared to make another effort as early as the winter transfer window, which opens for business on the 1st of January.
Agoume has a €40m release clause in his Sevilla contract, although it is likely that a deal could be done for cheaper, given Los Nervionenses’ well-documented financial woes. Man United and Arsenal would both be very capable of paying the asking price, so it could be a straight fight to see who could convince the player.
It would be no surprise to see Agoume leave Sevilla in 2026, especially if he continues on the upward trajectory that he has been on over the last 12 months. When the time comes, his sale would be very helpful for his current club, although it could be a challenge to find a suitable replacement.
