Arsenal have reportedly requested that their Premier League fixture against Everton, originally scheduled for the 21st of December, be moved forward to the 20th of December to allow more time for preparation ahead of their EFL Cup match against Crystal Palace on the 23rd of December. The adjustment would provide the Gunners with an additional day of rest and preparation in what promises to be a congested December schedule.
According to the BBC, Arsenal’s request stems from concerns about the demanding fixture list facing clubs still involved in multiple competitions. December is traditionally one of the busiest months in English football, and for teams like Arsenal, who are competing across domestic and European fronts, managing player fitness and recovery becomes a critical aspect of maintaining performance levels.
The club’s appeal highlights the broader issue of fixture congestion and its potential impact on form and player welfare. A tight turnaround between matches increases the risk of fatigue and injury, particularly during a period when teams are expected to compete at high intensity in both league and cup competitions. Arsenal are eager to ensure that their performance standards remain unaffected by scheduling pressures.
By moving the Everton match to the previous day, Arsenal would gain a more manageable window for recovery and tactical preparation ahead of their EFL Cup tie. Such a change would also enable Mikel Arteta to rotate his squad more effectively and minimise the physical strain on key players.

While Arsenal are confident that its request will receive fair consideration, the Premier League faces a complex decision. Approving the adjustment could set a precedent for other clubs to seek similar scheduling changes, potentially complicating fixture management across the competition. The league must balance fairness, broadcasting commitments, and logistical factors when reviewing such appeals.
Nevertheless, Arsenal’s proactive approach reflects a growing emphasis on player welfare and the importance of maintaining competitive integrity throughout a demanding season. Should the request be granted, it would demonstrate the Premier League’s willingness to accommodate reasonable adjustments that support both player health and the overall quality of the competition.
