Arsenal have reportedly agreed a new deal with William Saliba, which could mean bad news for Liverpool.
The defender will sign a five-year contract with the Gunners “in the coming days”, according to The Athletic, putting an end to speculation over his future at the club.
Saliba has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, who were interested in signing the centre-back to bolster their backline.
The 24-year-old will seemingly not be joining Los Blancos anytime following this latest report, which is a huge boost to Arsenal after they also tied down Gabriel Magalhaes to new terms in the summer.
It also potentially deals a blow to Premier League rivals Liverpool on two fronts. The Reds are in danger of losing Ibrahima Konate for nothing next summer when his contract runs out.
Real have been linked with a free transfer for the defender, who has been in talks with Liverpool over a new deal for months.
The Spanish giants are also said to be looking at possibly signing March Guehi next summer. Like Konate, his deal with Crystal Palace expires next year and he appears destined to leave Selhurst Park.
The England international came agonisingly close to joining Liverpool on transfer deadline day earlier this month, but the move was scuppered after Palace failed to sign a replacement.
The Merseyside outfit are expected to return for Guehi in the summer, but the Mirror report that he has his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu.
Real are unlikely to sign both players next summer, but it is entirely possible that Liverpool lose Konate and miss out on Guehi, leaving the club with a huge hole to fill in their middle of the defence.
