The England international, who has only recently returned to action following a short lay-off with a calf issue, kept his place in midfield as Arteta made just one change to the team that started the 2-1 loss to Manchester City.

However, Eze’s involvement lasted all of 53 minutes as he went down off the ball and was immediately replaced by Gabriel Martinelli.

In a potential boost for the Gunners, Eze has insisted he is fine amid emerging as a doubt for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

“I’m alright,” he told Sky Sports. “I’m all good, it was just a precaution. I didn’t want to do anything [more severe], I’ll be OK.”

Arteta, meanwhile, has provided an update on the attacking midfielder as well as Kai Havertz after the German forward limped off in the first half following another off the ball incident.

"They are muscular niggles," Arteta said. We don't think it's too much. We have to wait and see if they can be available for Wednesday.

"He [Havertz] had a little niggle.

"I don't know how serious it is. It didn't look to big. The action, the way he describes it, is not too sharp. But we have to wait and see."
