Arsenal were dealt a huge blow as Kai Havertz sustained an injury against Newcastle United during their Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium today.
The Gunners opened the scoring through Eberechi Eze nine minutes into their clash with the Magpies.
However, they are now sweating on Havertz’s fitness after he had to be withdrawn after 34 minutes.
The German could not continue after a knock and was replaced by Viktor Gyokeres. He immediately made his way down the tunnel.
Havertz has struggled with his fitness this season, and manager Mikel Arteta will be praying he has not sustained a serious injury at such a crucial time.
The Gunners are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.
Their next Premier League game is also at home against Fulham next Saturday, and it is unclear whether Havertz will be available.
He only just returned to action in January, having been out since the first game of the season against Manchester United in August.
Havertz has bagged five goals and three assists in 19 appearances this term, and Arsenal need his influential presence as they look to win the Premier League and Champions League.
The Gunners have had to cope without several of their key players at various points of the campaign, and things could have been different if they had a fully fit squad all season.
They will be hoping for some good news on Havertz, and his absence could deal a big blow to their title chances.
