Aston Villa are preparing to fend off Arsenal interest in Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers when the England pair return from the World Cup. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Arsenal are targeting both, with Villa set to resist.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Rogers is long-standing, with the 23-year-old believed to be their top forward target. A move for Konsa is seen as likelier after William Saliba’s back injury, which could keep the France defender out for months.
Villa do not want to lose either player and have prepared to offer Konsa a new contract. The 28-year-old has two years left and is valued at around £60million, a figure the Gunners are thought unwilling to meet.
Rogers has 50 Premier League goal involvements in the last two seasons and is valued higher, with chairman Nassef Sawiris unlikely to consider bids below £100m. He signed through to 2031 last year and, while Villa insist he is not for sale, that is unlikely to deter an approach.
Konsa and Rogers are expected to feature when England face France in Saturday’s World Cup bronze match. They will face team-mate Lucas Digne, who is expected to complete an £8m move to Paris Saint-Germain next week.
Neither player is due back until after Villa’s Far East tour next month, with World Cup participants given extra time off by Unai Emery. The squad returned this week, with a trip to Walsall on Tuesday and John McGinn set to join for games in Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong against Bayern Munich.
