Arsenal are well placed to profit from Chelsea’s sanctions over breaching Premier League rules by signing some of the best young players in the country in the coming months.

Chelsea were hit with a nine-month Academy transfer ban after self-reporting potential historical breaches of rules during the Roman Abramovich era in 2022.

An independent commission has now concluded its findings, handing out the Academy ban, in addition to a one-year first-team ban on transfers, which is suspended for two years.

While Chelsea have also accepted a £10.75m fine due to issues surrounding the club’s Financial Reporting, Third Party Investment and Youth Development.

Arsenal, who routinely compete with Chelsea for the best young talent in the country, are now likely to face less competition as clubs battle to strengthen key age groups, including Under-14s, which is seen as a vital step in the development of players.

Indeed, the Independent understands that Arsenal plan to appoint a new academy head, who would report to sporting director Andrea Berta, instead of James Ellis, who had served as the club’s technical director until his departure last month.

Ellis had only been in the role for seven months, but Arsenal hope that the internal restructuring will see them positioned for long-term success, with Mikel Arteta’s side nine points clear at the top of the Premier League and searching for a first title in 23 years.

The recent changes behind the scenes also saw Arsenal secure the services of former Napoli head of scouting Maurizio Micheli in a recruitment role last year.

While guiding Arsenal towards silverware on four fronts, Arteta has also helped starlet Max Dowman, just 16 years of age, break into the first team, including a player of the match performance in the 2-0 win over Everton last weekend.
