Arsenal arrive at Villa Park with questions swirling around their Predicted Lineup and plenty of uncertainty over key personnel. The build up has been dominated by doubts over Declan Rice, who continues to face a race against time. The manager kept his cards close to his chest on Friday, offering only: “Well, let’s see. I think with all the questions I am going to get, the answer unfortunately is going to be the same. We have another training session in the afternoon. Every hour is going to be very important to see the availability. So, after that, we will decide who travels.”Those comments underline just how delicately Arsenal are managing their midfield anchor ahead of a demanding Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.
Arsenal will make the trip without Gabriel due to a thigh issue and Kai Havertz because of a knee problem. The list of concerns does not end there. Cristhian Mosquera limped off early against Brentford and remains under assessment for an ankle problem. His manager admitted on Friday: “That is the one that is more complicated,” before adding that final clarity would follow additional testing. When pressed over the severity of the issue, he continued: “No. We need to know, because the feeling that we had after the game and yesterday, we need to corroborate with what happens with other testing that we do today.”
William Saliba and Leandro Trossard were also absent against Brentford. Saliba picked up a training knock before the Chelsea draw, while Trossard has been nursing a calf complaint since the Champions League win over Bayern Munich. Both are edging closer to returns, with the manager suggesting their availability hinges on the final session: “It is a matter of days with those two, for sure. After the training session, we will know more.”
One major positive for Arsenal comes in the form of their captain. Martin Odegaard managed his first ninety minutes in two months during midweek and looks ready for more involvement. He has been hampered by both shoulder and knee issues, yet his manager believes momentum is building.Asked whether Odegaard could play twice in a week, the response was strong: “I think he’s certainly capable of doing that once the injury is resolved. I mean, you see his stats, what he did in midweek after six, seven weeks out. It’s incredible. So we just have another player, another top player that gives us a lot, gives us something different to what we have in those positions. So I’m very happy to have him.”
His presence could prove vital against an Aston Villa side that thrive at home and press aggressively in central areas.
With Arsenal juggling injuries and late fitness calls, the Predicted Lineup reflects both optimism and caution. A 4-3-3 setup remains likely, with David Raya behind a defence that could include Jurrien Timber, Saliba if passed fit, Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori. Odegaard, Martin Zubimendi and Rice form the midfield trio should Rice recover in time. Bukayo Saka, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli would then complete an energetic attacking line.
Predicted Arsenal XIRaya, Timber, Saliba, Hincapie, Calafiori, Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice, Saka, Merino, Martinelli
