The Gunners will seek a response in the 4:30pm kick-off (live on Sky Sports Main Event), after slipping to their first defeat of the season last week, at Bournemouth.

Arteta’s tactical test

It’s fair to say Arsenal have improved their squad from last season and many expect them to take the next step and win their first Premier League title since 2003-04.

Discipline has been an issue though so far this season, with three red cards in eight league games, all of which have cost them points.

Declan Rice’s sending-off against Brighton saw the Seagulls snatch a point at the Emirates, while Leandro Trossard’s dismissal at the Etihad enabled Man City to secure a 2-2 draw.

Last Saturday it was a red card for William Saliba for a professional foul at the Vitality Stadium, with the Gunners eventually beaten 2-0.

As well as the suspensions, Mikel Arteta has also seen several key players missing through injury and his squad is being tested to the full.

Liverpool only made one signing in the summer, with the capture of Federico Chiesa, but Arne Slot has already had a positive impact on the Reds squad.

It’s seven victories in eight games in the league, with the Merseysiders winning all of their games on the road, including a 3-0 success at Man Utd.

While this is their toughest test yet, Slot’s men go into the clash off the back of a solid Champions League win in Leipzig and conceding just one goal in their last four games in all competitions.

Liverpool, who have scored in their last seven games in all competitions, have been beaten in their last two Premier League visits to the Emirates, but they did claim a 2-0 FA Cup win at Arsenal last season.

Arsenal vs Liverpool team news

William Saliba serves a one-game suspension for his sending-off last Saturday and his likely replacement, Riccardo Calafiori, also looks set to miss the game due to injury.

Gunners skipper Martin Odegaard, who has missed the last five league games, is still sidelined with an ankle injury and might not be back in action until mid-November.

Bukayo Saka suffered a hamstring injury with England and faces a late fitness test after missing the last two games, while Jurrien Timber is another doubt due to a muscle problem.

Liverpool will again be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson due to a hamstring injury, so Caoimhin Kelleher will continue between the posts.

Diogo Jota looks unlikely to feature after injuring a rib in last week’s win over Chelsea, while Italy international Chiesa could also miss out again.
