Last season’s top two in the Premier League collide at the Emirates Stadium
Arsenal can go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League with a win over champions Liverpool.
Last season’s top two meet in north London this week, though the two sides have experienced contrasting campaigns thus far with 14 points separating them in the table.
Arsenal lead the way are well-placed to end their 20-plus year wait for a Premier League title, while the defending champions are having to settle for a top-four battle.
Their chances were further boosted on Wednesday night as Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton.
Arsenal have responded superbly to defeat at Aston Villa last month, winning their last five in a row to sit six points clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last nine games across all competitions but draws against Sunderland, Leeds (twice) and Fulham has stopped them from consolidating a top four spot.
Arsenal vs Liverpool is scheduled for a 8pm GMT kick-off tonight, Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The match will take place at the Emirates Stadium.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports. Coverage starts at 7pm GMT on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League ahead of kick-off at 8pm.
Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Sky Go app.

Arsenal’s injury woes are beginning to clear with Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera the only first team players sidelined along with youngster Max Dowman.
Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard are expected to return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench in the 3-2 win over Bournemouth, while Piero Hincapie should get the nod over Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back.
There is a decision to be made regarding Kai Havertz after he was left out of the squad on Saturday. Eberechi Eze will be hopeful of getting some minutes under his belt having not featured since the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over former club Crystal Palace.

As for Liverpool, their main injury concern is the in-form Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman missed the 2-2 draw at Fulham with a hamstring complaint and Arne Slot remains unsure if the forward will be fit for the trip to north London.
If Ekitike is ruled out then Cody Gakpo is the most likely option to lead the line given Alexander Isak is out injured and Mohamed Salah is away on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Slot has been rotating his full-backs recently, so it could mean that Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson start to provide a more solid defensive platform.

While Arsenal are expected to win this match, and quite convincingly in the view of many, these types of games rarely turn out in such a way.
Regardless of Liverpool’s form, this will be a close encounter and we think the Gunners will edge it - just.
Arsenal to win, 2-1.
