Sunderland are among several clubs monitoring FC Lorient and Cameroon midfielder Arthur Avom, whose stated ambitions could shape any move.
Africa Foot reports that Sunderland have held direct talks with the 21-year-old’s representatives, with Chelsea, RC Strasbourg, Galatasaray and Stade Rennais also interested.
Avom plays for Lorient, the former club of Black Cats head coach Regis Le Bris, and is viewed as an option to strengthen central midfield this summer.
“My goal? To win the Champions League, the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. Even if this time it ended in the quarter-finals [of AFCON], the dream continues,” he told L’Equipe.
Such targets could make Sunderland’s pursuit a challenging proposition in the near term. “This means two things: he compensates for his size with impressive mobility and he boasts above-average technical skill,” said Cameroonian journalist Martin Camus Mimb, speaking to Le Bled Parle.
