Asmir Begovic has become the first Leicester City player to speak publicly after relegation was sealed by the draw with Hull City, 10 years after Claudio Ranieri’s side won the Premier League. The goalkeeper responded on social media.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Begovic called it a very challenging week, admitted the season had fallen short at every level, thanked home and away fans, and insisted the club will return stronger.
Manager Gary Rowett said the club could have a bright future but urged the hierarchy to make major calls in the coming weeks.
He spoke as protests were held outside the ground and cautioned that full clarity might not arrive in the next week or two, yet the club must be decisive about its direction.
Rowett called the swing from the Premier League win 10 years ago to this low extreme, said it would sting for a few days, and praised the passion of supporters.
Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha accepted responsibility for relegation to the third tier with no excuses, apologised to fans and said the pain is shared across the club.
He said the focus now is on what comes next, with necessary choices to rebuild, improve and restore the standards expected of Leicester City.
