Aston Villa have agreed a deal to take Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus, according to NY Times.

The agreement includes an option to buy for €25 million, £21.7m, plus add-ons at the end of the season, and will end his current loan at Nottingham Forest.

The 27-year-old was undergoing the final stages of a medical on Wednesday ahead of completion. The move returns the Brazil international to a club where he made more than 200 appearances between 2019 and 2024.

He left Villa for Juventus in summer 2024 for €50 million plus €1.5 million in add-ons, but struggled to establish himself, completing 90 minutes only twice. This season he has made eight top-flight appearances on loan at Forest after a hamstring injury.

Chelsea considered a loan of their own but chose not to proceed after an initial enquiry.

Villa are short in midfield. Youri Tielemans faces an extended spell out after an ankle injury in the second half of Sunday’s win over Newcastle United.

The Athletic reported that Boubacar Kamara will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Captain John McGinn is expected to be out for six weeks.

Villa are third in the Premier League, level on points with second-placed Manchester City after 23 games.
