Aston Villa have not been very active in this summer’s transfer window so far, but now the club have started preparing for a big move. According to a report by Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, who was relayed by GMS, the club have held talks to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

According to the report, the 24-year-old could leave Stamford Bridge this summer as his role in new coach Enzo Maresca’s plans seems to be diminishing. Chelsea have recently added Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to the team, and both players are being seen ahead of Jackson in the pecking order.

If we look at Villa’s needs, the club are clearly short of a striker after the departure of Jhon Duran. Marcus Rashford was brought in on loan from Manchester United last season, but he was not kept permanently, and now he has moved to Barcelona for the new season.

For this reason, the club are looking for a new attacking option. Although Bayern Munich had also inquired about Jackson’s situation, their interest did not progress much. Now Villa have a chance, but the biggest challenge is the price, as Chelsea can demand around £80m. The question is whether Villa are willing to spend such a huge amount.

Will Nicolas Jackson be the right choice for Aston Villa?

Now the question arises, why do Villa want to bring a player like Nicolas Jackson? The speciality of this 24-year-old striker is his pace and tall stature. He is adept at creating space between defenders and does not shy away from physical contact. Considering the Senegal centre-forward’s age, the Chelsea player can benefit the club for a long time. Along with this, it should not take much time for him to adjust to Unai Emery’s tactics as he fits in counter-attacking moves.

However, his shortcomings cannot be ignored either. Jackson sometimes looks unstable in finishing and has missed many easy chances. Bringing him at a hefty price of £80m would be a risky move. Still, if Villa have to increase the depth of their squad, then this deal can prove to be right.

In our opinion, the club should negotiate strictly with Chelsea on the price, because the player has the quality, but the valuation is a bit high. However, if the Blues are still adamant on the price, we don’t think it is justified to bring in a player like Jackson at that price, with Ollie Watkins still in the squad. However, if the English international also leaves this summer, then it will be a completely different ball game.
