According to ExpressAndStar.com, Aston Villa are waiting for an approach from Juventus for goalkeeper Emi Martinez as speculation over his future continues.
This is the second successive summer the Argentina international has faced uncertainty. There are claims that Martinez already has a contract agreement with Juventus, but that counts for little unless Juventus make a bid that matches Villa’s valuation of their first-choice goalkeeper.
Martinez was in a similar position 12 months ago, widely tipped to leave, yet stayed when Manchester United sought only a loan.
Villa are not actively looking to sell the 33-year-old, though they have been scouting goalkeepers in case they need to act. Manchester City back-up James Trafford is thought to be high on their list, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier has also been monitored.
Martinez is currently away at the World Cup, aiming to help Argentina defend their title. He hopes to have recovered from the broken finger sustained before last month’s Europa League final in time for their opener against Algeria next Tuesday.
