John McGinn is facing several weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury, Unai Emery has confirmed.

The midfielder missed Villa’s 2-0 win over Newcastle and speaking after the game, Emery confirmed he could miss up to two months.

“He is going to be out for some weeks, even one or two months,” Emery said.

“I don’t know exactly. He is visiting some doctors but I don’t know exactly. We will know something more.”

Youri Tielemans, meanwhile, suffered an injury blow in the victory against the Magpies as goals from Emi Buendia and Ollie Watkins secured all three points.

“It was his ankle,” the Villa boss confirmed.

“Hopefully not a lot, but we must check him with the doctor and wait. I can’t say anything more.”

It comes as another blow for Villa, who also remain without midfielders Boubacar Kamara and Ross Barkley.

However, Emery was full of praise for his players after a huge win at St James’ Park.

“Fantastic,” he said. “It was extraordinary how we’ve competed after we lost against Everton.

“We needed to react like we did on Thursday in Fenerbahçe and again today against Newcastle.”
